Folklorama 2019
2019 marked the 50th Anniversary of Folklorama, and the CSCS hosted its 48th pavilion of those 50 years! What a great record! We held our pavilion at a new venue in 2019, the Bronx Community Centre. For those of you that like numbers, here are some of the highlights:
We hosted over 3,000 total guests over the week
Over 60 volunteers operated the pavilion daily, ranging in age from 4-90 years young.
We put on 21 shows with over 30 performers totaling 50 hours of entertainment.
We hosted 8 bus tours and numerous VIPs, some being repeat customers.
We barbequed 10 pigs and 140 chickens over the course of the festival.
Some other noteworthy items
Our new location, Bronx Community Centre, proved to be a success for our 2019 pavilion. Some of the notable changes included increased neighborhood interest, increased traffic exposure, air conditioning, improved kitchen location and facilities, accommodating Bronx staff, and the sharing of equipment & expertise with the Romanian Pavilion. These changes made for an overall positive experience. We did have the added challenge of being required to tear down on Saturday night right after the last show, but in typical fashion our community came together to help. This “all hands on deck” attitude made sure that we were done tearing down, packing up and walking out the door in a record 60 minutes! The management of Bronx Park CC were also very impressed with how we ran our pavilion, our entertainment, and of course our food! They hope we return for the next Folklorama!
There was a new ticketing system that allowed patrons to book their tickets in advance which would allow them quicker passage at the door. Overall feedback was positive
Our Cultural Display was augmented in 2019 by an in depth visual retrospective of our 48 years with the festival. Many thanks to Vera Slejko for spearheading this effort.

In sum, 2019 was another successful Folklorama Slovenijan Pavilion. This was due to the impressive Slovenijan community effort and many volunteers that always shows up when needed. This community support will guarantee our success well into the future!
